This new game (The Kaleidoscope Classic) has impressed me tremendously. My daughters, Oona, 11 & Aadya, 8, have very enthusiastically played this game ever since we bought it. It has helped them to develop their skills in probability, permutations & combinations. It has also made them look at things differently & improved their perception skills as well. My 4 yr daughter, Avi, has made 4 different solutions to The Polar Bear- Challenge of the Week!

This is a fantastic game. The real challenge for me was not coming up with one; but rather, multiple solutions. The pieces have been really well thought out. The online game is fun too, but could be improved. One week, I had 2600+ solutions but could enter only 979; yet another week, I entered 660, though I had 1500+ solutions. A nicer way to enter multiple solutions would really add to this already fantastic experience.

Thanks to everyone at Kaleidoscope for this wonderful game

“While most of the time one hears of the Kaleidoscope Classic to be a fine game for the kids, I'm pretty convinced that the marathon test can be good for all ages. I wish people would not interpret the Kaleidoscope Classic as kids stuff as you very rightly say "the challenge that everyone can solve but no one can conquer”. Congratulations to the team for a well done job and to Dr. Wood for the invention of the game... I'm sure it'll go a long way.”

As a critical thinking activity this game would enhance learning environments. The future potential of the game is exciting. The on-line component of the game will take it to another level.

The challenge of the game tempts you to extend your own thinking powers. The group aspect of working together is a skill builder for all concerned.

“It is great to be a part of the game. The designs are much more creative than I thought they would be. It has involved my whole family & it is our favourite pass time rather than surfing the internet. Overall it's a win-win situation as you gain creatively. "

“The Kaleidoscope challenges and engages the students into a form of mystery right from the beginning. Their minds, operating from all directions of multiple intelligence, react quickly to what they perceive to be a solution to any given puzzle. Developing fine motor skills, students soon realise their potential when the checkerboard puzzle is solved, trying to beat their personal best time in competition with others in the class. This confidence stimulates their desire to attempt more challenging puzzles, hence, working together with what teachers believe in the classroom to be learning. Kaleidoscope in schools will be a very clever tool.”

My Experience with Kaleidoscope Classic
First when I saw the game Kaleidoscope Classic at mall named land mark. A boy demonstrated to me about the exciting game and its great features. The most which interested me was the CHALLENGES. I insisted my father to buy the game from. Whenever I find time, I would love to sit with the Kaleidoscope classic and solve the challenges. I wanted to solve the challenges soon as possible and soon become the CHALLENGE MASTER. I really enjoyed solving the challenges of Dr. Wood, It is definitely a great exciting game I ever had enjoyed playing to solve the challenges in my life. Soon my friends & cousins also come to know the advantage of this game. Watching me solving the challenge, they too went to landmark and bought it. So I take this opportunity to thanks Dr. Wood for creating such an exciting game and its wonderful features which are of great benefit to one and all that plays it. I have also made my own design. I have also got the other two game EnKounter and Krusade I enjoy playing it during my weekends with my family, cousins & friends.

Challenging, interesting, tricky, mind-boggling are just some of the words our students and teachers used to describe working on the Kaleidoscope Classic.

- ‘I really found the Kaleidoscope Classic great fun to work on’ (Yr6 student)
- ‘My friend and I worked together to solve the Puppy puzzle’ (Yr5 student)
- My brain hurt!’ (Yr4 student)

In line with a School philosophy of challenging the boys, utilising spatial thinking and problem solving skills with a ‘hands-on’ approach, and providing experiences that cater for many different learning styles and intelligences, the Kaleidoscope Classic was easily integrated into the classroom curriculum with the boys, of all ability ranges, working and succeeding as individuals, in pairs and small groups.

"It was fun but at the last moment it just got worse because it was getting difficult to put the pieces in...But it is rocking”
His mother said - "It's great and it helps the child to tap his talent. Games like this should be encouraged..."

“My Dad wants one; he thinks it’s really good. Your speech was great and the puzzle was excellent. I really enjoyed playing with the Kaleidoscope Classic and hope you come back soon."

The game would:

- Enhance co-operative learning and problem solving between children working on the puzzle together;
- Individually it is an enjoyable way to encourage persistence
- It enhances a range of problem solving strategies beyond just trial and error
- It challenges thinking in regard to spatial relationships. As a game it is non-threatening to those who are spatially challenged.
- At its highest levels i.e. creating new patterns, it encourages creative designs by students.
- It’s fun
- It’s a game that crosses a wide range of ages and therefore is an “investment” from the point of views of school’s, having limited resources.

To solve the puzzles or challenges of Kaleidoscope Classic was very good fun and entertainment. After and above the whole day tension of my job, I felt relaxed with this Kaleidoscope. I found it mind sharpening and a good refresher.

After coming from office and site work, I preferred Kaleidoscope and then tea.

I would like to be involved with the Kaleidoscope Classic and will be winner of challenges.

Wishing a bright future

"The Kaleidoscope Classic is a great game, especially to play online. It also makes (it) more challenging. The Kaleidoscope Classic makes one think creatively inside the square. "

I am particularly interested in the game as a tool for developing children’s thinking, in particular their creative thinking. There is a plus in being able to achieve success while still setting new challenges. The principles of the game are worth exploring for applications of problem solving in other settings e.g. knowing the limits, rules and basic principles then it becomes creative when these are tested. I have yet to see children engaged in the game and I would be interested to see whether diverse learners engage with the game.

I have been using Kaleidoscope Classic in my classroom since the beginning of 2005. Students were given free access to my single personal copy, as part of my overall integrated classroom program.

Students have used Kaleidoscope Classic to:

- Engage in higher order mathematical thinking skills by manipulating the pieces of the set to:
--- Assemble the pieces within the box
--- create new patterns
--- assemble predetermined patterns
--- engage other students in solving their created patterns
--- solve the problems set by other students
--- seek new ideas and stimuli from their classmates
- Engage in substantive conversation with other classmates about solutions and new problems
- Cultural knowledge has been enhanced through classmate interaction and recognition of higher order thinking ability within the group
- Enhancement of group identity through activities created using the product
- Students develop recognition of knowledge as problematic using a solution centred approach to activities
- Student engagement has been identified via on task behaviour and persistence in the pursuance of wide ranging solutions to creations.
- High levels of self regulation has occurred due to high interest and motivation

The use of Kaleidoscope Classic has recently been enhanced by introducing students to the online weekly challenge. This has enabled more students to engage in the activity simultaneously and share their experiences and ideas in more pragmatic ways.

I have recommended Kaleidoscope Classic to other teachers as a valuable addition to the classroom mathematical thinking enhancement program.

“The Kaleidoscope Classic” big name but opts for what it is ... calling it a game or puzzle would be injustice to it.

The best thing is that it increases your appetite and want of M - O - R - E …the brain doesn’t tire in solving puzzles.

It’s an addiction (HEALTHY)...
